Our first-ever single-origin, specialty Half-Caff comes from Yelnoorkhan Estate. We selected their S795, washed processed coffee to create a complex and distinctive cup.

To reduce caffeine by 55%, we used CO₂ decaffeination, a chemical-free, minimal-waste generating method that is conscious in its water and energy usage. We chose it because the other decaffeination methods available to us in India came with a catch. In removing all the caffeine, they also took away the depth that makes a cup memorable. Adding artificial flavours was not something we wanted to do, never mind the fact that many of these methods also used far too much water.

The result is a cup with a gentler kick that holds its own in terms of flavour. You’ll first notice chocolate biscuits on the nose as well as your palate. A silky mouthfeel then reveals notes of roasted hazelnuts and malt, followed by a long, nutty finish.

For the best experience, brew this coffee using an espresso machine. It tastes great black and is equally suited to milk-based beverages.

Frequently asked questions

“Half-Caff” coffee refers to beans that contain around 55% less caffeine compared to our regular coffees. It’s perfect if you want all the flavour and ritual of coffee, but with a gentler caffeine kick.
No. It’s not decaf. Half-Caff contains around 45% of the original caffeine content, giving you a mild lift without the full intensity of a normal cup.
Half-CCaff coffee is more expensive because it requires an extra, specialised processing step to remove caffeine. The CO₂ decaffeination method needs advanced equipments and multiple rounds of treatment even before the beans are roasted which drives up the cost.
It contains approx. 55% less caffeine than regular Arabica coffee. For reference:
  • A typical espresso-based beverages would have ~186 mg caffeine and our Half – Caff would have ~83 mg caffeine.
  • A typical pour-over has ~145 mg caffeine Half-Caff pour-over: ~65 mg
  • The reduction % is similar across espresso, French press, and other methods.
If caffeine usually limits how many cups you can enjoy, yes, you can likely drink more Half-Caff comfortably. But always listen to your body and personal tolerance.
We use the CO₂ Decaffeination Method - a chemical-free process where pressurized carbon dioxide gently extracts caffeine while preserving flavour compounds. This entire process is carried out in India. 👉 Detailed process explanation will be available on the webpage.
Not exactly, and that’s normal. Our goal is to retain maximum flavour and aroma, but some differences occur because of the decaffeination process. Half-Caff is smooth, balanced, and especially good for espresso-based beverages like cappuccinos, americanos, and milk coffees.
Decaffeinated beans behave slightly differently, so here’s what helps:
  • Grind slightly finer (Half-Caff has fewer oils, reducing resistance during extraction)
  • Best results come from espresso machines, but manual methods also work
  • Keep your usual recipe ratio
  • For best flavour: start using 5 days post-roast
  • Decaffeination removes some oils, which lowers resistance in the puck. A finer grind helps restore balance, sweetness, and crema.
Please consult your doctor. Half-Caff still contains caffeine, so medical guidance is recommended.
Currently available as brewed beverages at Blue Tokai cafes in Bangalore and Vasant Kunj (Delhi). Retail packs of 100 g and 200 g are now available on the Blue Tokai website, app, and Amazon. Stay tuned for other locations.
We use single-origin Yelnoorkhan Estate beans that undergo CO₂ decaffeination in India.
Not weak, just different. This is important: Strength isn’t determined by caffeine alone. Flavour strength comes from acids, sugars, aromatics, and Maillard compounds & not just caffeine. Even with reduced caffeine, Half-Caff still delivers a full, flavour-forward cup, especially on espresso.
Decaffeinated beans can appear sighly darker and has a matte look than regular beans because of structural changes during decaffeination.
