Hippla Estate
AUGUST 22, 2023
Established in 1916 by Huliyappa Gowda, Hippla Estate has stayed in the family for five generations and is currently managed by Nesara HD and Raghi Hippla. Hippla Estate is divided into 3 main farms: Galigudde, Kalavese and Dinnekere. The farms are located at the foothills of Chandradrona Mountain Range near the Bhadra River in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. From processing coffees to taking care of the plantation on steep terrains, managing the staff to bookkeeping — the producers handle everything. Apart from coffee, Hippla Estate also grows areca nut and pepper.
Most of their coffees come from the Galigudde (translated to ‘Windy Hills’ in Kannada) region which is an hour-long journey from the city of Chikmagalur. It is surrounded by the lush greenery of the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, and is home to a variety of animals such as elephants, boars, bears, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, flying squirrels, peacocks and many other animals. The Kalavese region (‘Village of boulders’ in Kannada) mostly grows Robusta but it has a small block of Arabica as well, located around 6km from the Galigudde block. The Dinnekere region is a completely organic coffee farm which is closer to the city, and happens to be the very first farm started by their ancestors.
This year marks their plunge into the world of specialty coffee processing. Click here to get our latest coffee from Hippla Estate.
