Gungegiri Estate, part of the Sangameshwar group — which our most loved Attikan Estate is also from — was started by a couple of British brothers, W.L. and C.S. Crawford, who cultivated coffee for the first time in the area back in 1890. Numerous streams flow through the hills in Chikmagalur, which make the landscape here very fertile. Coffee is grown under the shade of indigenous species of trees like Atti, Basri and Neeroli. The estate is a haven for a large number of flora and fauna including peacocks.
