Baarbara Estate is owned by seasoned Chikmagalur based coffee cultivators M.G. Plantations. Since 1894, M.G. Plantations have been passing their family knowledge of cultivating coffee to the succeeding generations of the Baba Budan Giri Hills, which is historically known to be where coffee was conceived in India.
Baarbara's Selection 795 arabica beans are grown on the high elevated Hills of the Western Ghats at an altitude of 3850 to 5350 feet. Purchased almost three decades ago, the estate is now run by the third generation of Indavara family and has UTZ and Rain Forest Alliance Certifications.
Apart from cultivating coffee, the estate also produces black pepper. Periodic visits from tigers, wild boars, barking deer and more than 100 species of birds are also not uncommon at Baarbara estate.
