St. Joseph Estate
St. Joseph Estate
AUGUST 22, 2023
High in the hills of Perumalmalai, St. Joseph Estate traces its roots to the colonial era, when coffee was first introduced to its fertile slopes. After independence, the estate was entrusted to a community of Jesuit priests. In 1997, they hand-planted a new generation of coffee trees, enriching the soil with homemade organic fertiliser made from groundnuts.
Perched at 1500 metres above sea level, the estate offers ideal conditions for Arabica, with unique varietals like SLN 795, SLN 10, Cauvery, and Kent, grown under the canopy of shade trees such as hill bananas, oranges, avocados, and jackfruit. Here, elephants, wild boars, and bison roam freely across 175 acres.
