Intro to Coffee Cupping

Transparency is very important to us. We introduced our Intro to Roasting Session last month and are very excited for our first ever cupping session. 

Very few people know that the compounds in coffee far exceed those in wine which makes our favourite hot beverage more complex than its alcoholic counterpart. Through this session, we hope to show you how to discern the complexity of coffee. 

When you read coffee flavour notes such as nutty, malty, acidic, sweet, and are curious about who came up with those descriptions and how they did it, this session is just for you. You will step into the shoes of our professional tasters (known as cuppers in the coffee world) to experience a session that will not only change how you perceive coffee, but how you experience flavour in general in all types of food. You don't have to be a "foodie" or even be fond of cooking, but do have to bring with you a sense of being open to new experiences that will stay with you for a long time. 

This three-hour session will guide you through each component in the sensory analysis when tasting different types of coffee. Our goal is to give you the tools to understand and discern flavours and fragrances according to the same parameters used by our Blue Tokai cupping team.

The session will start with an introduction to aroma, fragrance and flavour in coffee, and will be followed by a full cupping session and quality assessment. A Q and A will follow, and at the end of our interactive session, we have a small surprise for you to help your coffee cupping experiments continue at home.
